As more and more high schools fasten the dress code for prom, kids are turning to cheap two piece prom dresses as the solution. Not only are they more affordable, but they also will be more conservative, complying with the dress codes of all schools.
Today's gowns are all about selling sex appeal. It is very difficult for a 18 or 15 year old girl to find a dress that is appropriate, a dress it's not too sexy on one hand, and isn't little girly on the other. The suitable dress is a happy medium of sophisticated, and classy, not trashy, and that is surprisingly hard to find, in retail stores at least.
That's where vintage comes in. Second-hand and vintage stores have a great selection of gowns that are perfect for prom. While vintage gowns are more conservative, with modest necklines, and longer hems, they are far from matronly or frumpy.
Many vintage gowns rely on high quality fabrics, and good construction to make a complementary and figure enhancing shape, instead of unveiling skin to be sexy. It's all about the suggestion of what is underneath, the intrigue and allure that makes them appealing. You don't have to be half bare to be sexy.
And since so many contemporary designers are creating vintage inspired gowns, they actually look very modern. All over runways, and fashion magazines, we are seeing retro looks. Louis Vuitton and Prada are both showcasing a 1950s inspired ad campaign. Retro glamor, a la Marilyn Monroe, Brigit Bardot, and Audrey Hepburn, is the in look, and perfect for prom. An antique dress won't look old fashion, it will actually look avant garde, and modern, that you just moved off the runway, or much better, out of a fashion newspaper.
And you will still find more benefits to wearing an antique or second-hand prom dress.
Not only will you look amazing, and comply with the dress code, then of course you'll save big money of money. Vintage gowns and second-hand designer gowns tend to be much more affordable than what you'll find in retail stores, usually around 33 % of the price.
You won't have to worry about anyone else having the same dress. One of the biggest fears at prom is that some other girl is going to be wearing the same dress you are, and worse yet, that she could look better in it than you do! If you wear an antique dress, this certainly won't be a problem. Instead, everyone will be talking about how unique your dress is, and how amazing you look. You won't even hear "I almost bought that dress! inches. Or "I saw that in the store too! inches.
Wearing an antique or second-hand dress to prom will save you from so many of the prom disasters. You won't have to worry about being turned away for not complying with the dress code, you won't have to worry about another girls wearing the same dress, and with all the money you save, you'll even be capable of getting your hair and make up done!
